Northern New Jersey is not only home to the Emily Photography studio, but to myself and the majority of my clients as well! There are so many scenic parks and nature sanctuaries that are just GORGEOUS locations to capture not only families, but also couples, and even expecting parents! Outdoor sessions are so fun to have with clients because when you are in nature, there are so many things to explore and see. Nature is, essentially, constantly moving, speaking, and showing off its own beauty. It simultaneously allows me to capture the natural and organic connections of the sweet families I photograph!
One of my favorite places to photograph, that is also so close to home, is the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve. I have had so many sessions at this specific location from a variety of families! This scenic nature trail connects around the entire reservoir and also has a bridge trail that allows for a beautiful photo opportunity out into the water! The trail that encompasses the entire reservoir is also connected to a walking path along the top of the spillway. This is also another great area to take photos at the edge of the water! At this nature preserve, you are surrounded by the greenery of trees and woods. However, you also get great views of the water it surrounds, with spots along the way. This allows clients to sit and have the opportunity to take posed pictures as well, whether it’s on a log, a bench, or a rock! This spot is just FULL of unique spots to take incredible photos and therefore is at the top of my list for places to take pictures in New Jersey! The Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve is and always will be a go-to session location suggestion of mine!
If a client is looking for places to take pictures in New Jersey that are a little further north, outside of Bergen County, I LOVE suggesting the Ringwood Manor. It’s still within New Jersey and located on Sloatsburg Road in Ringwood. Although this location requires a permit to take photographs, the investment is worth it. The location does not disappoint once you are there! This place is a main part of Ringwood State Park, which has so much to explore in itself. The grounds at the manor not only have views of the historic manor, but also open fields, pond life, beautiful gardens, and hiking trails. There are even picnic areas and a playground for young visitors. It is a great location for all types of sessions for people of all ages. The possibilities for wonderful photo opportunities at this location are just endless!
New Jersey has so many hidden gem locations in the great outdoors that are perfect canvases for the masterpieces that photographers like myself are trying to create! Having a session in picturesque locations such as the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve or the Ringwood Manor will certainly guarantee a variety of wonderful shots. These beautiful photo memories will keep and honor their family legacy forever.
